I went to the original site, and the whole article is in Russian (or at least the Cyrillic alphabet).

Even with oilers in the task group, I wouldn’t want to be on some elderly poorly maintained Cold War era warships on a long cruise.

"Her 12 P-700 Granit cruise missiles are a significant threat to all aforementioned naval forces including ours especially if they are nuclear tipped. The Russians could also have one or two Oscar II submarines hanging around which is armed with 96 P-800 Oniks Yakhont (Super Sunburn) missiles which could cause horrific damage."
Right you are. People tend to forget that the Kuznetsov is a one off design that is part aircraft carrier and part missile cruiser.

“why didnt the Russians send their own oilers along on the trip?”
They did. This article is propaganda nonsense.

..assuming these subs lasted long enough to launch and if these actually hit a target. doubt that any of these could close with a US combatant without said combatant being fully aware of their presence.
if there are Oscars about it can be assumed that they are
being shadowed by forces who can show them love if necessary..

At the link:
“Japanese hits caused more damage to Russian ships relative to Russian hits on Japanese ships, setting the superstructures, the paintwork and the large quantities of coal stored on the decks on fire. (The Russian fleet often bought low-quality coal at sea from merchant vessels on most of their long voyage due to the lack of friendly fuelling ports).”

The Russians decided to invest primarily in submarines, both nuclear and diesel.

They have modernized their navy and have vastly improved their maintainence.Let me remind you that our boomers are cold war error too.

They can launch outside the range of the anti submarine fleet

The only nuke carriers in the world are USN supercarriers and the French
Charles de Gaulle.
Does the 'rest of the world's only consist of France and the US?

I do not know to laugh or cry. I think we should refuel them. Every jihadi they kill is one less for us to worry about.

Maybe Global Warming will keep those Europeans warm this winter when Ivan diverts all that Nat Gas to China in that brand new pipeline that was just completed.
Payback is a B**CH.

We (0bama’s forces) aren’t killing Jihadis, we are arming them and sending them money.

Crazy or not, that IS the state of the world's aircraft carriers. GB went with gas turbines on
HMS Queen Elizabeth because they are cheaper than nukes, easier to repair and not fraught with the difficulties of nukes on a carrier. Look at all the problems the French have with the
Charles de Gaulle. Only the US has been able to perfect nukes for carriers.
Incidentally, 'turbine' is pronounced to rhyme with 'combine' or 'haybine', NOT like the thing a Sikh wears on his head, a 'turban'.
