There really isn't any consequence for pollsters who get it wrong. Other than bragging rights, which are only relevant to other pollsters.

The news networks and other groups who sponsor polls are always ready with excuses as to why they were off. And it's never their fault. Typically, they'll blame the turnout- either higher and lower than expected.

It's kind of like a bookie operation. It doesn't really matter who wins or loses, only that they have people willing to put money in from both sides.

Bingo! the networks use the polls that fit their narratives. Once it’s over they make up an excuse and move on.
