Zero Hedge ^ | October 27, 2016 | By Tyler Durden

Those who have been toying with outright war against Russia, and an escalation of the conflict in Syria, are putting the lives of all Americans at risk.

Of course, the threat of nuclear annihilation has been with us since the earliest days of the Cold War, but Russia has now positioned itself with the largest and most destructive nuclear arsenal of any country in the world.

Been going back and forth with a liberal on facebook and they mentioned an article that stated the UN now believes that from 2014 to 2015 Assad used chemical weapons on its people. I guess that is what is behind our increasing war stance? My question is whom was Assad targeting with those weapons. Legitimate rebels, or ISIS backed or ISIS friendly rebels?

One EMP each over San Francisco, Chicago and NY is all it takes. No physical destruction of life or property. The result of lack of power is what will be devastating to our country.

Sure, Hillary could easily start WWIII and get us reduced to ashes in a nuclear holocaust, but the really important threat is Trump, who may have touched some women twenty years ago. He's a truly dangerous man!

Maybe the Russians get tagged particularly hard, and fire a nuclear-tipped Sunburn missile (or several) at a carrier to retaliate. Then instantly 7,000 sailors are vaporized.

And then they immediately announce any nuclear attack on Russian soil, whether or not it targets civilian or military would result in an immediate nuclear strike on a major US city.

Then the question is, what does the US do in return?”

An attack on one of our carriers would most likely result initially in a measured attack on the Russian carrier, Admiral Kuznetzov. Then it would be up to the Russians to decide whether escalation is in their self-interest. They would not be able to strike first without expecting at least a tit-for-tat retaliatory strike.

The thing is, the Russians have plenty of carriers to choose from after that, and plenty of overseas airbases.

The US would run out of targets that aren’t in Russia pretty quickly.

I don’t think the Russians would escalate after our initial retaliation. They are not suicidal. But we do know where all of their submarines are ...

Nothing that was posted changed my mind or even gave me new information I didn’t already have. My thresh-hold for wanting to provoke a nuclear war is probably different from some neo-cons. We knew this going in, and we know it coming out.

Well, Obola would immediately apologize.
But Hillary would convene a focus group and decide 24 hours later. Then deny and delay their decision until the polls changed.

“Other than the bases around Norfolk”

You kidding? Newport News is massively ‘blue’.

I include Norfolk just as we did when I was in the Navy: as the set of bases from Little Creek and air base and NAS and the Norfolk Shipyard over in Portsmouth and the ammo depot and stores yards and Newport News and its side yards.
But downtown Norfolk? Blue.
Chesapeake?

Sure, I do not want a nuke to destroy NYC or Washington DC or Philly or Chicago or even Detroit or NJ. We might lose a 1000 conservative voters. /sarchasm

We are not protecting ISIS from slaughter. We are trying to support the moderate opposition to Assad and objecting to the Russians bombing Aleppo back to the Stone Age.

Granted, many of the "moderate" rebels are also batshit crazy (by our standards), but that's life in Islamic middle eastern countries unfortunately.
