My first trip to Paris, a woman accidentally bumped into me at a grocery store with her cart. She said, “Excusez-moi, sil vous plait.” I said, “Oh, no, excuse me” and she hissed in English, “You are so RUDE to speak to me in English en France!” I calmly responded in English, “If it wasn’t for Americans and our English, you’d be speaking to me in German because we saved your derriere not once but twice from Hitler.” She fled.

If the French minister pushing this ‘French only’ order had any knowledge of European languages - he would know that
“Anglais” is a compilation of Greek, Roman and other European influences throughout history - as a result of invasions, conquests etc.,
The reason English is the most used language throughout the continents is due to the British Empire of the last century. The French and others were in the business of colonization, but lagged in building schools and hospitals.
