THE RUSSIAN aircraft carrier floating through the Channel in a show of Putin's naval might is a Soviet antique plagued by technical problems, it has been revealed.
The Admiral Kuznetsov, part of a fleet destined for Syria, was seen belching black smoke off the coast of Dover.
But while it looks daunting, the vast vessel is a relic of the Soviet era -- with the port side still bearing it's communist name - "Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Kuznetsov".
The ship even has a tow boat running alongside waiting for it to grind to a stuttering halt.
Ex-Royal Navy officer Peter Roberts said: "There's nothing more depressing for a naval captain when he leaves home waters than to be escorted by a tug because even your commander in chief thinks you are going to break down."
The ship frequently has to return to port so its steam turbines can be repaired, and its piping system often freezes in colder waters.
The chance of pipes bursting is so high that the majority of cabins for the 1,690 strong crew are reportedly not supplied with running water.

Likely # 4 or 5 fuel oil, # 6 would be really nasty work.
Sumner / Gearing class DD post WWII???
Put enough chaff in the air, and they can hide behind the smoke.
Ohhh nooo,
This can’t be true.
Putin says he is going to resurrect the Soviet Union and again rule the world.
And Russia is broke.
DD 862 USS Vogelgesang, she was a Gearing class Destroyer
And your comments are relevant to a story about a Russian aircraft carrier because...??
When the keel is snapped in two by a torpedo, it’s difficult to remain afloat or make it back to a dry dock.
If Naval combatant are shooting nukes at each other then there are much bigger issues going on.
Two Mk48 hits are not going to snap the keel of a 95,000 ton CVN. It will make it back to dry dock for repairs. The question becomes then because of Free Traitors will there be a dry dock to go to?
One MK48 strike.
OTH The FFG 7 class that was just recently used for target practice stayed afloat for over an hour after two mk48 hits( and numerous missile hits) and that was with no crew taking any DC action. The FFG class weighs maybe 5000 tonnes.
Here is FFG 43 floating after two mk 48 hits. No crew and no broken keel when clearly the after hit, below the flight deck was directly underneath the keel.
Things are different now.
Lucky shot. Lol.
Hard to stay afloat without the keel.
Since the 80s, the targetry controls for most torpedo systems hunt for the sweet spot directly below the keel, so their detonation cracks the keel.
Was that the USS Kitty Hawk, known to its crew as the “USS S***ty Kitty”?
Never been on one, but the many smells of a coal fired carrier are unforgettable to those who sailed on her. To the point of affecting the taste of one’s food.
Anyway, Kuznetsov is indeed an aging Soviet rustbucket. Why didn’t they launch some aircraft while in the Channel, just to prove otherwise?
Very wise words indeed.

Who does post 77 sound more like?
I havnt seen a bigger collection of foolishness in a long time. belching black smoke from fuel oil fired boilers is a sign of weakness?? what bullshit... A tug just incase it breaks down?? more bullshit. why don’t you all stop trying so hard and get back to the intelligent point of it all... Why are they doing it??
a paradigm from Coveys 7 Habits??
