ISIS in the crosshairs: Battle for Mosul begins
CNN ^ | Ocober 16, 2016 | Ray Sanchez and Eliott C. McLaughlin,

The offensive to liberate Mosul from ISIS control has begun, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said in a televised statement early Monday. "Our dearest people in Nineveh province, the victory bell has rung, and the operations to liberate Mosul have begun," he said. "I am announcing today the beginning of these heroic operations to liberate you from the brutality and terrorism of ISIS. God willing, we will meet soon on the ground of Mosul where we will all celebrate the liberation and your freedom."

The fight is expected to last weeks, if not months, and if the battles to wrest Falluja and Ramadi from ISIS' grip are indicators, Mosul will be a messy melee. The assault's buildup has been ongoing for some time. US-led coalition and Iraqi forces have hammered ISIS targets with airstrikes for more than a year. The Nineveh Liberation Operations Center, which was set up to coordinate the offensive, has brought in dozens of American and British advisers. A US artillery unit has provided cover for operations south of Mosul.

The hardened fighters will stay and fight...leadership no doubt have left.....but you are wrong assuming there are not many left.....Mosul is their base/stronghold and where they declared the Caliphat they will not go easily into the night by any means....they estimate possible 8,000 Jihadists deeply embedded in the city via tunnels, and other fortifications that they’ve had two years to prepare...not to mention those above ground.

Additionally this is the country’s biggest ‘most complex military operation’ since the 2003 war.....they would not be forming this huge army to take Mosul if they thought only a few remained.

Now wait just a minute. We are admonishing the Russians not to kill civilians in Allepo Syria but we are going to bomb innocent civilians in Mosul? WTF?

No...Our guys won't be in active fighting...this is led by the Iraqy Army...who are bent on recovering from their embarrassment when they ran before.....no thanks to Obama who did not train them for Isis's attacks, rather reconnaissance and the like...there is no way they could have stood that onslaught and didn't..according to the US Generals there now who have spent months training them for proper warfare.... I listened this week to a couple speaking saying the Iraq army is ready and eager to come out the victors this time around...they want to save face from before among the people.

The main city fighting spearhead will be Sunni forces since the city is predominatly Sunni and the people need to know they're being liberated.

Furthemore the Russians have been positioning themselves accordingly in Syria for this Mosul war as many of the Isis fighters will be going to Raqqa, Allepo and throughout Syria...as the war in Mosul continues.....this to protect Syria/Assad from Isis takeover as the battle for Mosul begins.

+1.....any American soldiers injured or killed are completely Hussien’s and Hillary’s responsibility. The is no reason for more American soldiers to put their lives on the line! Send Hussien!

Actually it's a 30,000 man Muslim Coalition Army of Sunni, Shia, Kurds and Iraqi authorized Militias ......it's been a huge undertaking for our Military leaders to orchestrate....and prepare the so their own Military can take Mosul. We will provide air power and some embeedded troops but the actual fighting will be done by this army of Muslims.

Most Muslims there do not see ISIS as Islamic...but butchers from what our Military leaders have said of the populations and the political leaders throughout Iraq..

...”any American soldiers injured or killed”...

There will be but hopefully very few....they are not engaged in the actual combat itself.....but the entire area is a battle zone, as one US Commander said and some will die even if they aren’t fighting.

Do you actually believe that BS? I am curious as to how gullible you are? Here is what will happen. The Iraqi Shiites are not worth a crap. Americans will take huge casualties unless we obliterate the population in Mosul, The “president” will call for 100,000 military to invade with faggots and women !! Sunnis won’t do $hit against their beloved Sunni brothers. Dream on and have a nice week. ( what a damned joke), Are we just living a lie all the time?

Not really......Iraqui’s and Mosul government did not want Erdogans fighters over fears Turkey would lay claim to Mosul..which Erdogan wants badly.....Erdogan should not be involved at all...he's worse than a cad and causes more problems in the ME than we do!!

They already have their hands full with the Shia’s and Kurds and Sunni's all a hairs breath from possibly attacking each other as this thing heats up......because Mosul is a diverse community...mostly Sunni though....which is why the Iraqi Sunni's have the lead......it's important that the population know THEIR army is liberating the.

Have to remember some of the residents welcomed Isis so there's going to be neighbors also fighting one another...this is going to be one complex war .....and why it has taken so long to get it formulated for this go we see happening now.....had there not been so many conflicting government authorities this could have been done long ago.
