It's not exactly true that SNL (or late night talk shows, etc.) only skewer one side. It's WHAT aspect of the candidate's personality that's mocked that varies. Leading Dems are NEVER portrayed as dumb or racist. Bill Clinton was mocked as a cool, lovable horndog that always beat the rap. Hillary gets nicked for her unlikeable personality and blinding ambition, but she's never shown as dumb and not really corrupt either. Only Obama was untouchable.

Sarah Palin, on the other hand, was made out to be a trailer trash bimbo, Romney a Ritchey Rich elitist, and Trump a misogynist racist.

Definitely. George bush and Reagan were portrayed as idiots. Especially bush.

They did start to go after obama a little on some real faults of his, mildly of course, and not before any elections.
