Almost 25 years after watching the Dawn of Communism collective farm where he grew up land in the dustbin of history, Andrey Burdin is helping turn Russia into something the communists never could: a grain-export powerhouse.
Over the last few years, Burdin has tripled the size of his farm on the steppe near the Black Sea, winning prizes from the local government for how much wheat he's produced from the rich soil here and pumping profits back into new tractors and sprayers.
His harvest this season will be a third bigger than what it was just five years ago, helping fuel an explosion in grain exports that has allowed Russia to displace longtime global leaders like the U.S. and European Union.
Long known for its oil and gas, Russia is now moving to retake leadership in the world wheat trade it last held when the Czars ruled. In the process, it's reshaping the market for one of the world's most important traded food products.

Wheat prices are near 10-year lows, but the ag tech guys say demand is up slightly and prices will follow.
An article from July 2016 says that the Ukraine has increased their grain exports by 14%.
So the US is redundant now and the breadbasket can be nuked as that is what obama, hillary and her globalists want to have happen.
Trump or bust!
Borders, language, country and national pride = a nation.
We don’t have one.
More proof that Communism is a direct cause of starvation. Funny how all socialist countries are always in perpetual drought; it is always the weather comrades, never the fault of socialism. Eh, Hillary?
This is less than an hour from where I live!
Remember the Russian wheat deal of the 70’s? Nixon. We ended up with a shortage-had to buy it back. As I remember the Ukraine was the bread basket of the USSR.
Must be more of that dern Globull Warming to blame!
The area where I am is part of the Black Earth region. The top soil is about 6 feet thick. Very fertile. With all the Western technology, Russia will become a agricultural powerhouse.
A lot of wheat farming in the US has been converted to corn because of the ethanol subsidy.
I guess this explains my losses in my wheat fund investments.
But Deere is selling more equipment to Russia now.
Also Quote:
The boom in Russia is attracting some of the world’s biggest trading houses, with Olam International, Cargill and Glencore investing into everything from silos to export terminals.
I guess I might realign some of my agra funds around equipment suppliers who are selling products going to Russia.
But there is another side note to this.
The government (Obama regime) is changing the rules again, to take more money from folks like me who also invest in agra funds/commodities like wheat, corn, soybean, sugar...
I don’t fully understand it yet, but the tax consequences are getting more burdensome and they are even making it more difficult to invest in American grains. I hate them. Yesterday, I sold my sugar funds (at profit) just to have to get out. Our government is destroying America.
it’s russian redneck time
“Breadbasket of Europe” - may Germans settled there to farm following the Russo-Turkish War (17681774) - which is why Hitler wanted it.
Mother Russia should always been an agriculture power. All that blessed land in under populated regions.
They should should also be a wood timber power house. A mineral ore powerhouse. On and on.
We had places like that but many are under 10 feet of gravel with paving on top ...
First Samsung Galaxy, now Russian wheat is exploding too? I guess it’s true you can’t trust foreign-made stuff.
Key point: “private ownership”
"They are sailing as far as Albany where midwestern grain is loaded directly into their holds." I was told. How things have changed.
"Austin, the Cold War is over."
"Good. Finally those capitalist pigs will pay for their crimes."
"No Austin, we won."
"Oh.....Yay Capitalism!"
