Technically, my understanding is that the applicable law would be that this timed video release designed to hurt a candidate’s chance constitutes a de facto campaign contribution to the other candidate. As such, since the economic value is much higher that the $2,500 limit (since it is the equivalent of hours of free campaign advertising), this would be an illegal campaign contribution.
