Bush did exactly what they wanted to do, but he gets fired for it?According to other reports, the execs weren't happy with the backlash against poor ol' Billy. I guess all of the crap was to hit Trump so now they are covering their asses. Looks like Billy is gonna sue, but that's probably a small price to pay for their Trump take down.

They can't make an issue of how wrong it is unless they demonstrate that they believe it was wrong for Billy Bush to do it too.
They had hoped that they could keep Billy Bush's commentary out of it, but they should have known the whole thing was going to come out if they let any of it out.
That being said, if this stuff came from NBC, I believe there are legal consequences to them for doing this.
