I'm thinking of modifying my back seats so technically, I can keep a weapon in the trunk, but attached to the back of the seat - if needed quickly, I could rock back in my driver's seat, pull down the back on the passenger side, and grab a mounted weapon and clip ... right now it's still in the idea stage.
My 92 year old father-in-law, (WWII combat vet) used to get the mail for us each day - he ALWAYS carried a weapon on him. Slept with it under his pillow every night. Just passed away a few months ago - part of the reason my wife wants to carry now.
Ashamed our nation has come to this.

Paranoia will keep you alive.
The criteria is not that the firearm is OK in the trunk.
The criteria is that the firearm is "inaccessible from a vehicles passenger compartment". If a firearm in the trunk can be accessed from inside the car, ESPECIALLY if you have deliberately modified the car to allow quick access, then the trunk stops being a place you can have the firearm.
