I used to have a Facebook “friend” who was an acquaintance from college days many years ago. He was a CNN producer for some years, though no longer. We didn’t try to talk politics much, but he had a total meltdown on me a couple of years ago when I tried to interject a little bit of factual content into a discussion. He just went off ranting, totally deranged, and then “un-friended” and blocked me. It was unbelievable, over nothing at all, just a minor correction of some nonsense he was spewing, and I framed it politely and carefully. I don’t talk politics on Facebook (due to many liberal friends and family who can’t handle it rationally), so it was not some “final straw” between us — it was a first straw, and he just couldn’t handle any information from outside the CNN bubble.
Just one small incident, but it was illustrative of the kinds of people who inhabit liberal media spaces — totally arrogant, entitled, smug, self-important, and convinced they are God’s gift to the universe. The self-styled “liberals” are so often the most illiberal when it comes to intolerance of differing points of view, information which conflicts with their world view, etc.
I know what you are saying.
I worked with a lot of libs who became friends.
Learned really early that they could not handle the facts.
Refused to debate the two issues of anything.
Their view or no view.
Interesting anecdote!
Thanks for sharing.
