This should not be any big surprise. The Syrian war is a Turk/Qatari/State Department operation. ISIS is simply one faction who has become an embarrassment and has to be plausibly denied. They effectively did what they were supposed to do, helping to bring down Assad, driving a physical wedge between Iran and Syria, and even doing what was politically impossible, bring about the de facto partition of Iraq. Had it not been for all the public head-chopping, Hillary and Obama would probably be taking credit for a brilliant strategy. As it is, they have had to pretend to go to war against ISIS. The Turks haven’t got the word, they are still providing ISIS with a safe rear zone and taking their oil to market.

The mystery to me is why they took this guy to court in the first place. I’m sure this is what Beghazi was about, recruiting out-of-work jihadis and buying up weapons to transship to Syria by way of Turkey. This guy was evidently part of the operation. Why go after him? Maybe sometimes one half of the government doesn’t know what the other half is up to; they didn’t get the memo.

Maybe by taking him to court they were able to bury the details from the public. because of the investigation.
