Ag Secretary to America: Stop Wasting Food, Cut Back Portions

WASHINGTON -- Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said America needs to stop wasting food, even if that means teaching people to cut back on the amount of food on their plates.

Speaking at the National Press Club on Monday, the former Iowa governor said long-term food insecurity "is a challenge, because we're going to have to increase food production -- I've seen anywhere from 50 to 70 percent in the next 35 years -- to meet a growing world population."

"But the first step, and the one way the USDA can provide help and assistance to meet this need, is to expand on the -- on the issue of food waste," Vilsack said. "A third of the food that we grow, raise and produce in this country is never consumed the way it was intended. It's wasted."

“Ag Secretary to America: Stop Wasting Food, Cut Back Portions”

We produce so much surplus food that we make gasoline out of it. A$$hole.

Did the Founders ever tar and feather a British Ag secretary? If not, we need to start a new tradition.

I went with a friend to work for Feed My Starving Children and had a great time! I do much the same as you. Jesus said to love our neighbors as ourselves, and also warned us about not seeing him in the poor, so yes, it is the right thing to do.

“Could this have anything to do with the UN’s Agenda 21/30 goal to depopulate the world by war and mass starvation?”

Not hardly. The UN has mastered two military maneuvers:

Retreat and surrender.

The UN “Rambos” will be ventilated hundreds of times before they get to your house.

I believe the UN, et al are just servants of the NWO banksters who also control the black ops on a world wide scale. There will never be a UN troop invasion on America soil.

Yes. I never think of whether the donations are going to deserving or undeserving poor. You know what? I’ve been blessed on occasion when I least deserved it and suffered sometimes blamelessly. So, to me, it all balances out in the wash.

“I believe the UN, et al are just servants of the NWO banksters who also control the black ops on a world wide scale.”

Interesting statement. Qaddhafi literally hired an entire army of mercenary “black ops” to protect his ass, or at least form an armed and protective phalanx to ensure his escape from Libya should TSHF. It didn’t work, as evidenced by his execution on the hood of an SUV on a dusty desert road.

Banksters are fooling themselves if they believe they’re protected from harm when TSHF. The point about paid mercenaries is that they’ll run like hell away from trouble, leaving their boss to his fate, when it becomes obvious that their client will not be paying them anymore.

A patriot will stand and fight; a mercenary will run away.

Excuse me, as someone who is underweight, I need to eat more. My family don’t need the government in our kitchen, our bathroom, our living room or our bedroom.

I like people, even poor people, so I contribute happily to food banks and give canned goods to the people who collect on behalf of needy people outside supermarkets. Maybe it’ll buy me a minute in heaven, maybe it’ll buy me good luck when I’m in hard times myself and, maybe, it just makes me feel happy to lend a helping hand. It’s called private charity and it is a very good thing.

I agree. I take care of friends who are going through bad times, giving them a place to stay, sometimes giving them work they can do. A couple of times I've had friends stay with me for a few months or more. Besides giving them a place to stay and feeding them, I also help them get back on their feet. It's called voluntary charity.

What I object to, though, is the demand that I feed people who have no interest in work, and no interest in changing their behavior so as to become self-sufficient.

And when "charity" is enforced at gunpoint, it becomes banditry, not charity.

Mrs. Don-o, you ask a few questions in response to my suggesting that contraception be included with food aid. I am happy to answer them for you:

Are you a useless eater?

No. I'm a productive, gainfully employed, wealth producing, penny pinching conservative American who has never taken 1 oz. of "food aid", welfare or unemployment compensation. On the other hand I've paid immense amount of taxes over my 40 year (and counting) working career as a taxpayer.

I have raised two productive citizen kids who are now also paying high tax rates, in part to feed people in Africa, who like our own domestic parasite classes, are now on generation 4 of living on gifted food. Of course we also have the lovely situation where people are importing themselves here to go directly onto welfare, which again often becomes multi-generational.

Who should decide?

Ideally, each person should decide for themselves how much and to what charity, if any, they wish to contribute. Taxes, the taking of money from citizens by force should be limited to the absolute minimum supporting only the most critical tasks of the Government, if that.

Because we appear doomed to be ruled by bleeding heart types who have no problem with forcing me to pay for their altruism, I suggested my modification, so that at least my grandkids get a break.

Shall we take a vote?

Well that's what the left is always suggesting. "Lets take a vote and decide how much of your wealth we will force you to give to support people in Africa who can't figure out how to feed themselves, despite 50 years of help." I would prefer not to take a vote and to just be left alone, actually.

Thanks for asking! Ciao!

In your last post only, you phased it that you want contraception "included" in the aid package. It's already there, since Title X was enacted under Nixon in 1970. Poor people can get free contraception in any County Health office. The federal government pays 90% of the cost of contraception obtained through "state" Medicaid programs, and the states pay the remaining 10%.

Even if a woman is paying out-of-pocket, oral contraceptives (Sprintec and Tri-Sprintec) from Target. Kroger, or Walmart pharacies cost about $9 a month, even cheaper than condoms. But with the coming of Obamacare, all females are to have free access to all contraceptives of every kind, including hormonal injections, transdermals and implants.

But contraceptive "inclusion" and contraceptive "availability" are apparently not enough, because in your previous posts, you said you wanted food aid denied unless people used contraception. So that's not just "inclusion" of voluntary contraception (which we've had for over 40 years), that's "coercion" of involuntary contraception.

The point of my argument was not that it is the govt's responsibility to give everyone-and-all-their-kids food aid taken from Jack Black's pocket. (I think govt. control of food is the worst possible situation.) it was that using food to coerce people into using contraception, is just plain wrong.

Using hunger as a tool to pressure people into an immoral practice is bad enough; predicating it on the idea that certain classes of people need to be coerced because they are "useless eaters" is worse.

Other than disaster relief, I would like to see food aid reconfigured down to the most nongovernmental and local levels possible: churches, voluntary charities, and as a transitional thing, counties. (Transitional toward making it all private and voluntary.)

In no case should it involve coercion predicated on the insolent idea that, based on their low economic productivity, poor people and their children are useless and worthless.

Dump Michelle O's school lunch menues.

This is so true. These kids, a number of them who get "free" lunches, throw out their entire meals quite frequently.

“We” do NOT have to feed a growing world population

Let the rest of the world feed itself.

We certainly don't have to, but food is one of our largest exports. No reason not to sell them all the food they can buy at market prices.

to pressure people into an immoral practice

By this you mean contraception? You think contraception is an immoral practice?

If the population of Africa doubles every 14 years for the next half century and they have no fundamental increase in their ability to feed themselves then "included" contraception in food aid is actually more humane.

The alternative is a huge famine die-off situation in the year when China or the USA doesn't have the surplus to feed them.

In the USA we treat deer more humanely than Africans. Biologists do exactly what I'm saying when the carrying capacity of a give area is exceeded, they put contraceptives in the food so that the number of deer stops going non-linear.

In all previous eras the build up of numbers of humans orders of magnitude above the carrying capacity for any given area was impossible. War, famine and disease precluded it. Now we are setting up for human misery on an untold scale.

As a side effect say good-bye to all large wild animals in Africa. The coming 4 billion person Africa will eat those soon, never to return, and get to work destroying any fisheries they can reach.

If you think contraception is immoral then we have even more divergent philosophies than the discussion to this point has demonstrated.
