This isn't the America of the 1950's. To do a similar large-scale civil defense exercise would be impossible. We couldn't send out the notice in English, as huge swathes of this country don't speak English. We'd have to develop culturally appropriate notices in Spanish, Hindi, Somali, Chinese, et. al. There is no social unity any longer and where there appears to be it is only coinciding socio-economic interests and relations. I.e., no bonding. When our Fed-manipulated financialized economy falls like a deck of cards, the U.S. will be the great multicultural experiment that failed.
Or the demonic neocons will start a nuclear war and end all of our problems and all of us as well.
Everyone is getting too worried about this. What “civilian defense day” means for most Russians is more like a company won’t work that day, but rather hires a bus and takes all the employees to some forest. They are supposed to practice putting out a forest fire, but in reality they just drink vodka.
