Why declare a state of emergency now? It could still possibly miss us here in Florida and keep moving west.

Me, being originally from the Gulf Coast, I see most hurricanes that go anywhere near the Gulf as seemingly “magnetically” drawn to the Mississippi/ Alabama border. I’m worrying about all my relatives who are not paying attention to this yet.

Declaring a state emergency early helps get people prepared.
Depending on where it looks like it is going to go they have to start opening shelters in case they have to get people out of low lying areas . They also start getting the National Guard prepared .
It’s not a bad thing to issue a state of emergency for a bad hurricane early .

Our Governor declared a State of Emergency here in NC today too. News said by doing that it lifts some regulations for farmers to get their crops in before the storm hits. Farmers will be able to get in more people to work longer hours and there was also something about allowing heavier loads for trucks hauling produce and such, if I remember correctly.
