I survived hits by Camille, Fredrick, Elena, Georges, too many TS to list and was wiped out by Katrina.

My blood boils when some yahoo talks of ‘Super Storm Sandy’. Grrrr!! It was just a tropical storm.

I get my back up when I hear Super Storm Sandy too. It was big but not particularly bad or super.

Ah! So you know where I’m coming from! I’d love to see some of the ‘danger junky’ weather followers who think ‘buzzsaw’ storms( I actually saw someone bemoan the end of the hurricane season without at least one buzzsaw killer storm) and the ‘OMG there was wind and rain in Manhattan, we’re still traumatized!’ types FLY DOWN to where this is forecast to hit. Get a hotel room on the beach(lots available, sane people will leave), or pay an evacuating homeowner to stay in their house. EXPERIENCE a Cat 4-5! Live the dream, go out and live stream it! Then- if you survive- talk about ‘superstorms’!

The storm itself was less intense compared to what Florida usually gets but the damage along a heavily populated and very unprepared NY and NJ coastline was horrific because of the storm surge.

The lower end of my hometown had 12 FEET of storm surgewater over it and its only a few feet above sea level. Thousands of homes were uninhabitable for months and months. It was cold since it hit in the fall so you couldn’t just camp out.
My parents street 3 miles north of that was out of power for 2 weeks. Every large tree in the town was GONE.

Hardly something to sneer at.

I don’t think the winds were that strong with SSS (obviously, since it was a tropical storm) but the storm surge combined with higher-than-normal tides caused all the damage. At least, that is my recollection. I do remember that they have huge snowfalls on the west side of it. That was crazy.

Katrina has a historic 28 foot storm surge.

Hurricane Camille had 190 mph sustained winds at landfall in the U.S. but this was in 1969 https://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/surge_details.asp

funny that there haven't been any major Hurricanes hitting the U.S. in a long time . Liberals and the media have told us we'd be getting hit by much stronger monster hurricanes by now because of their global warming . this proves global warming is hoax. Mathew already down to 120mph winds
