Palestinian protesters in Gaza today burned images of former President Shimon Peres while his funeral took place on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem - acording to a report by the Palestinian news agency Shams News. Also, the protestors chanted slogans against Abbas because he came to Jerusalem with his entourage to attend the funeral. In addition to photos of Peres, protesters also burned the portraits of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Barack Obama who attended the funeral.
The demonstrators expressed anger at Abbas, who was recorded at the funeral holding his head, and bowing his head,[and apparently] expressing sadness and maybe even shedding a tear for the death of Peres. This image provoked criticism among Palestinians, prompting Abbas's office to issue a denial, claiming that he [was merely]"concentrating on listening to translations of eulogies." Abas's office added that the PA chairman came to the funeral to show the world he was "a man of peace".
Meanwhile, in recent hours there was an increase in tweets on Twitter with the tag condemning Perez. According to the report, the Tag "mourning the death of Peres is treason," is today the second most frequent Twitter hashtag [in Arabic].
They dared to burn pics of the lyin’ king? WTH? He’s almost as anti Israel as they are.
someday Israel will have to get rid of the enemy occupation of Gaza, clear the area and take it back for Israeli civilian settlement
allowing the Islamics to stay encamped there is a terrible mistake
if no more enemy in your midst, no more terrorist tunnels and attacks
It would appear that they hate America enough to overlook all he has done for their cause.
