Quit watching that show decades ago.
Wishful thinking. SNL is actually more watched today than it was in the so-called "golden years" of Belushi, Radner and Aykroyd. Millions of people have it as an app on their mobile devices and clips from the show go viral on social media.
One can quibble about whether the show is as funny as it was back when but it is an indisputable fact that is more watched today.
I don't think that SNL has the ability to "Palinize" Trump as they did with Sarah. Trump is a known commodity and people expect him to be the object of the kind of satire that SNL does. Trump's a good sport about it too. He's hosted the show a couple of times and I wouldn't be surprised if he made another live appearance on the show before the election.
