The Washington Post gave four Pinocchios to Trump's suggestion that Clinton's email got this defector executed.

But, the basis of that rating: the defector's activities were widely published in US Media, and that Iran wouldn't have learned anything new from Clinton's email.

However, this is a classic case of where the media can't, or chooses not to, see the forest for the trees.

The Iranians regard the US Media as an extension of the US Government, publishing lies at the order of the President. After all, that's how the Iranian media operates -- and they can't conceive that it might be different in the US.

That may be actually closer to the truth than we like -- after all, we often refer to US media as the SRM, or "state-run media".

But, the Post can't imagine that anyone might believe they publish anything but the truth, so they can't admit that someone might consider their stories to be bogus without independent corroboration.

Without that corroboration, the defector would have been able to stick to a fictional story that he was kidnapped by the CA and tortured. So, he was apparently granted leniency by the Iranian court, and was only sentenced to prison.

While the defector wasn't actually named in Clinton's email, it was obvious who the email was referring to. Shortly after Clinton's emails were published by the State Dept. The Iranian was executed.

Clinton's email provided the independent corroboration to the Iranians -- the defector
