I despise conspiracy types as well. . .but I see the guy approaching Holt and switching hands as they approach each other for what appears to me like a hand-off was in progress. And why would Holt make a bee-line to the back of the stage instead of a) stay and chat with well-wishers and such as been done by previous moderators, or b) depart stage left or right, as that is how he entered the debate arena.
Trump had no notepad on his podium, and notepads are to be provided by the Commission, the candidate is not supposed to bring their own for obvious reasons.

Actually, Trump did have a notepad during the debate. It can be seen in one video where the poster is pointing out that Hilly has a weird, lighted screen shape on her podium that Trump doesn't have. You can see his notepad there.
