I have been a journalist for two newspapers. Journalism is a sacred trust.

Lester Holt and damn most of "journalists" in the media have not only violated that trust, they never cared for it to begin with,

BS. That is a self-serving myth dished up by the press for its own benefit. Anybody who trusts the press is a fool.

When the stakes are high, people are encouraged to get second opinions from doctors, lawyers, and engineers; lines of work that implicate substantially more skill and trust than "reporting observations and statements."

These days, a report from the press is more likely to be false than to be true. "Sacred trust" my ass.

Journalism is a sacred trust.
I can remember as a kid thinking of journalism as being a responsibility I would not feel up to.

My opinion of journalists has since declined a great deal, I fear.

IMHO nearly all journalists’ behavior can be explained quite simply:

  1. Their job is to print bad news. Bad news reflects badly on the people, and the society, which allowed that to happen. Bad news is negativity.

  2. All journalists claim that all journalists are objective. That is a necessity in a business dominated by reports from distant places, written by reporters whom the editor does not even know.

  3. People whose job makes them negative - and who claims that everyone in that negative business is objective - are cynical. Being cynical is what journalists are, and do.

  4. Nobody can be cynical about everything, and journalists are no exception. Journalists are cynical about society - about America, about the people at large - but they promote abject naïveté about government.

  5. Cynicism about society, combined with naivete about government, is the best definition of socialism.
