Obama to attend Peres funeral, says ‘a light has gone out’

Moments after news of Shimon Peres’s death emerged early Wednesday morning, eulogies began pouring in from world leaders from across the globe.

“There are few people who we share this world with who change the course of human history, not just through their role in human events, but because they expand our moral imagination and force us to expect more of ourselves. My friend Shimon was one of those people,” US President Barack Obama, who is expected to attend the late president’s funeral Friday, said in a statement. […]

“A light has gone out, but the hope he gave us will burn forever,” Obama continued. “Shimon Peres was a soldier for Israel, for the Jewish people, for justice, for peace, and for the belief that we can be true to our best selves — to the very end of our time on Earth, and in the legacy that we leave to others. Shimon Peres was a legend in his own mind and he contributed greatly to the State of Israel from 1948-93. In 1993 he resuscitated a dead and exiled PLO from Tunisia and inserted their Trojan Horse INSIDE Israel, calling it peace. From 1993-2003 at least 1,000 Jews were murdered and at least 4,500 maimed in the name of Peres’ Oslo Peace Accords. If he had any moral conscious then, he would have resigned in disgrace and apologized to the Jewish people for inserting Yassir Arafart into Israel and the resultant terror waves.
He never stepped down, never apologized and never admitted any guilt. Our only consolation is that he lost out in his bid to be Israel's President to a convicted rapist, then President, Moshe Katzav...
