What you saw at the debate last night depends on who you are
The American Thinker ^ | 9/27/16 | Thomas Lifson

There is something close to a consensus view among pundits that Hillary Clinton “won” the first presidential debate. As has been true throughout the campaign, the pundits are wrong about Trump.

The kind of people who watch a presidential debate with a notepad found Hillary to be well organized, articulate, knowledgeable, and fully presidential. By the conventional rules of the cognitive elite, Trump lost. He was spontaneous, not memorized, emotional, not controlled, and downright angry at times as he reviewed what’s happened to our country over the last decades – the “30 years” Hillary Clinton has been in politics. In a graduate seminar on the economy, he would be flunked for having few facts, a disorganized (spontaneous and emotional) presentation, and for violating the rules of etiquette repeatedly and with gusto.

But for people who have never read a 10- or 12-point economic plan, Trump came across as the guy who is upset over what a raw deal America, and especially blue collar and middle America, has gotten. For people who remember emotional points of conflict more vividly than the play of ideas, I think Trump planted himself firmly on the side of the 90% of Americans whose incomes have stagnated or declined. His interruptions, anger, and spontaneity, combined with his repeated emphasis on action, not mere words, positioned him as a non-politician, while Hillary came across as a smooth politician, her memorized, focus-group-tested points actually working against her in the eyes of the angry and frustrated viewers.

Keep in mind that last night was Act One of a three-act play. Many conservatives are bemoaning Trump’s failure to bring up various vulnerabilities (the email scandal, for instance) of Hillary. But one thing I have learned by watching Trump is that he learns and he adapts his behavior.

Many times her eyes zoned out like she was listening to voices.
Of which i have no doubts she was. Hers and the ones over her esrpiece or possibly the subcutaneous one implanted during a recent ear surgery.

All she needed was a pull string coming out her back.

Who on earth would vote for a old doll with a shrill voice and stuck on a looped stupid monologue?

Just get rid of 3rd wheel moderators, their interference, and their built-in bias.

The notworks would be part of the move to address this, and they won't. Kind of like Congress will never vote themselves term limits.

Need a COS approach - a bottom-up approach, to just do things differently. Create a new debate forum and venue, eg, with no moderator as you suggest, and then the candidates start going there, leaving the current system to wither on the vine.

Do it on C-span, and let the MSM networks run it, or not.

See #3. A moderator can be replaced easily by an alternating hot mic.

Perhaps watched about 2/3, and had enough...

but it seemed like Canky still has eye issues. I noted that she could gaze to the right easily and often. But, I didn’t see a single time she gazed to the left. On the occasions she looked at Trump, she always turned her head so that her pupils were aimed forward.

I suspect she knows and her handlers know that any left gazing will cause her left pupil to turn right when the right turns left.

Yes, I noticed the same thing, as well as her often hesitating cadence.

Yes. What you said... plus trump has to let petty attacks go unchallenged and pound her on her major crimes. He is defending himself for jaywalking while her murders go unchallenged. Surely trump is smarter than that.

All she needed was a pull string coming out her back.

You may not be far off. There is a picture floating around that clearly shows a wire running up her back and a little box of some sort at the base of her spine. There is no doubt she was wired. I'll try to find it and post.

The author was wrong in the description as Mr. Trump pointed out,it is an ILLEGAL PRIVATE SERVER SCANDAL NOT AN EMAIL SCANDAL

I knew she would be to Trump's left BECAUSE of that eye, and the angle of the podiums in relation to the camera and the audience made it easy to focus on her potential physical flaws ... because she never looked at US .... the 8 BILLION !

By forcing her wayward eye to point left into the audience, she bypassed the muscle memory of looking to the right, which is where the left eye over rotates.

I was surprised there was no raised platform for her because we had been told and led to believe they would equalize her height to match Trump's.

The red pantsuit was a striking shock and it is the most blatant signal that this was a very rehearsed and psychologically planned event.

We've been obsessed with blue for months and BLAM ... fire engine red !

Hillary was canned and Trump was natural ... no academic advantage for either, but blue collar and traditional America adopted Trump

I didn’t watch the debate, nor will I watch the next two if they do in fact happen. This is what I can discern from the posts about the debate. Trump let Hillary hang herself as well as shown America that the MSM is on Hillary’s side. Trump could have buried Hillary 100 times over, but didn’t because that wouldn’t be presidential. Hillary lied, Holt validated her lies and that told those watching a lot about how the establishment works.

Trump doesn’t need to debate Hillary again. Everything that needed to be said was said in 90 minutes. Trump is about fixing America, Hillary is about Hillary. What’s the point to wash, rinse and repeat?

Trump will be better at debate #2 and Hillary will be the same. Rinse and repeat for debate #3. If she can’t knock him off he’s the next President. She can’t.

I like that idea.

NO ONE, ever, under any circumstances, should interrupt. If I’d talked over Satan himself they way Trump interjected (not that Hillary didn’t try) my dad would have backhanded me into next week.

Hot mics- you get your 2 minutes and your 30 second response; period.

In line with ancient FR tradition, I've not read the article (so far).

However, I DO feel compelled to say that the headline should take the clear lead in this young century's Astounding Grasp of the Obvious Award.
