They wrote that in a fair and just world, there would be no pets at all, no fields full of sheep, and no barns full of pigs, cows and egg-laying hens. There would be no aquaria and no zoos.
If animals matter morally, we must recalibrate all aspects of our relationship with them. The issue we must confront is not whether our exploitation of them is humane with all of the concomitant tinkering with the practices of animal-use industries but rather whether we can justify using them at all, they concluded.

So glad you reposted that, I missed it when it was first posted.
Also, what a lot of info you have on your site, it is a treasure trove.
Now, my ‘animal slave’ is asleep at my feet after having been given a treat and a good belly rub. She is happy and would not do well on her own. She loves people, her only requirement for giving her devotion is that she gets the belly rubs she requires. Everyone who enters the house has to submit, and even the delivery guys who bring packages have learned to give her the belly rubs. That is some horrible torture right there.
Just another liberal moron hating animals.
Isn’t amazing how the Ivy League elites try to tell us how to live our lives.
When my wife and I go for our daily walks, when the working people are at work, we see many senior citizens out walking their dogs. Regardless of the time of the day, when we are out driving, we see people of all ages walking their dogs.
When my wife was the head RN of a busy FP practice, she and her doctor would recommend that new widows or widowers adopt a dog or buy a one. Then, walk that dog several times a day. Most of the new dog owners, lost weight and felt better by having a companion and a co walker.
We have friends and relatives, who need to have a dog or two. When they have lost a long time dog, we have encouraged them to get another one. They never forget the dog that is gone, but they have a new one to love and care for.
My older son and I are allergic to most cats. So we never had cats. A neighbor and his entire family is allergic to cats. They had an epidemic attack of rats/mice and ground squirrels. They couldn’t shoot them in town and didn’t want to put out poison. So they adopted two barn cats. Not only did the barn cats clear out the unwanted rodents in their yard, they have done the same in our yard and other neighbors. I leave pie pans with water for them in our back yard. The cats do most of their anti rodent activities at night.
We know a couple of ladies who own gentle labs. They take them out to retirement homes and nursing homes to be petted and patted by the dog lovers in those places.
Let me think. Where is pet/animal ownership non-existent? Oh, yeah.
North Korea.
Moron.
My dog kisses my ring finger because he knows my love has no bounds for his care and I will do anything for him.
Truth is I feed him, praise him, share my ice cream cone, brush him, clean up after his poop, take him to the doc, let him out in the middle of the night when he has to go.
Who is the slave?
I’m currently sitting on an uncomfortable dining room chair because my cat had taken over my very comfortable ergonomic computer desk chair.
Thanks! That reposted article is incredible.
The elite and in particular, the Ivy league elites and their UK counterparts, spend 24/7/365 telling us how to live and not live our lives.
Now, they try to tell us not to have pets!
My old man response to them is: $crew You!
I pamper my dogs, feed them, clean up their poop, pay their medical bills. Who is the slave?
Check out Pet Insurance Companies.
Great business idea, wish I had created it. Better than Obamacare.
Dogs have masters-——
Cats have slaves——
BTW- This jerk should try to compare my well cared for horses with the wild ones all over this state.
My healer mix is now 15 years old. She is losing some of her eyesight & some of her hearing.
However, her nose works just fine & she checks for coyote activity smells every morning when I feed the horses, and again at night.
She was a shelter dog who finally got caught with her brother after running free for over 4 months. She is still such a dumpster diver that ALL my wastebaskets re on the counters, etc.
Most of my 9 or ten dogs I have owned over the past 50++ years have lived to at least 14 years of age. A couple of them did extensive traveling with me in my car or in my dually truck. They have seen more of the USA than many ordinary people who were born here. Watch dogs, and sleep on the bed with me....under the covers in the winter.
My horses have had good long lives, also. One mare was over 30 when she colicked and I had had her 98 days short of 25 years. She produced 2 foals for me & many years of pleasurable riding.
Probably never any p---y either.
Dog...”They feed me and take care of me. They must be gods.”
Cat...”They feed me and take care of me. I must be a god.”
