MOTT HAVEN, Bronx (WABC) -- A portion of the Major Deegan Expressway is shut down in the Bronx after a suspicious package was found near the roadway. Less than an hour later, the all clear was given by police.
The package, which police said is a pressure cooker, was found at 5:35 p.m. near East 134th Street and Alexander Avenue in the Mott Haven section. This area runs under the highway.
Police said no wires or cellphone were found inside the device.
The Major Deegan is closed from the RFK Bridge to Willis Avenue (exit 2).
Police sent the bomb squad to the scene who later found that there was no danger.
Anywhere from $5 to $10 dollars at the Goodwill and Salvation Army stores.
More gun control would have prevented this! /s
How does a bomb explode in a pressure cooker, when it's not plugged in and the ingredients are inert?
Is there a reaction that causes it to explode? And with the lid on tight, wouldn't the lid stay locked on?
I believe the locked lid allows explosives to build more pressure before the whole thing blows apart. Same reason a pipe with threaded caps is good for a bomb.
I fear a terrorist attack via intentionally stopped traffic on a highway leaving motorists to be easy targets.
Hmmmm ..?? Was this one of the bombs that didn’t get set up; so they just took it away and discarded it ..??
Any fingerprints available ..??
I was on the Major Deegan a few weeks ago and traffic was at a dead stop. Seems traffic is always shut down there even without pressure cookers.
I wonder if pressure cookers are still on the market?
No, we need more pressure cooker control!
don’t know
Yep. Sitting ducks
Yup. Even the weird little pajamaboyz can have their fun paralyzingly the country.
Read the book. Schools and highway travelers are the targets. If the American people and members of Congress read this book, the refugee invasion would stop.
It's coming to a school and interstate highway near you.
People should need to submit a 4473 in order to purchase a pressure cooker.
We actually had to order the pressure cooker from the only local store that sells them and wait a month for it to arrive. Yes they do blow up. That is why we had to scrape the bean soup off the kitchen ceiling and then repaint with kills.
There is a safety valve that blows out and the insides go straight up through the small hole. The lid stayed on but the bottom of the pot became convex.
Stupid terrorists. You put pork shoulders in the pressure cooker, not nails. Oh wait, that was insensitive./s
The “pressure cooker” part enhances an explosive by containing the pressure of the blast until it reaches a higher-than-normal level, then the increased pressure is released suddenly by the pressure cooker structural integrity failing suddenly. Otherwise the explosive comes apart earlier, reducing the blast’s potential.
Think:
- blow air (from your mouth)
- blow air into a balloon until it pops
Notice the difference.
