I don’t want any establishment, replacement or otherwise.

Make government employment low-paid and long-houred without gold-plated pensions.

Permanent bureaucrats should be few in number, relatively powerless and important work should be contracted to for-profit expert contractors who bear the cost of training, plant & equipment, payroll, etc. in order to stay competitive in the marketplace. There’s no point in training Sally Satchelbottom at the GSA on a computer system that will be replaced in a year only to train her again on the new system etc etc.

When I was a kid, government employees were somewhat of a joke. We all knew that most were there because that couldn’t get a “real job”. Then things swelled, their keepers rewarded themselves and their minions, collective bargaining, etc.

I spent some time outside D.C. as a teen. Now I don’t want to go back there where development has sprawled 30 or so miles in every direction.
