Tuesday, host of Fox Sports 1s The Herd, Colin Cowherd, reasoned that the NFL ratings are down 10 percent so far this season because of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, rather than because of pre-game national anthem protests that were started by the 49ers Colin Kaepernick.
Sometimes I look at the American media and I just I dont understand how they cant see the obvious stuff, Cowherd said. So NFL ratings are down like 10 percent. I can just see them. Theyre all arguing about what it is. Oh, its got to be the Kaepernick thing. Its not the Kaepernick thing. Its the Trump/Hillary thing.
Thats why the Olympics were off 15 percent. Its why ESPNs most popular shows PTI and Around the Horn are off 15 percent. Its why sports programming, especially afternoon, late afternoon and night is off 15 percent. Its not about Kaepernick, its because Trump and Hillary, CNN, up. Fox News, up. NBC, way, way up. Listen, presidential cycles every four years steals some audience.

I specifically said that we watch sports to escape partisan politics especially in this Presidential election year, not still have it shoved down your face by a small number of players who think they are social justice warriors. If this had not happened, I reasoned, NFL ratings would be just as strong as it was last year. I said we watch sports to united us, not rip us apart. As such, I said the Black Power salute by three Philadelphia Eagles players will likely increase the boycott of the NFL, and a ratings decline approaching 20% could happen by the middle of October 2016.
Marketing 101—Pi$$ing off customers is not a path to success.
Can’t stand Cowherd, and now FS1 added Skip Bayless, another useless POS. waste of air time.
Actually, I think he is correct. I stopped watching FNC after the Romney loss. I started watching again last year after Trump made elections great again. Normally I’d watch MNF, but I was watching the FNC shows last night.
Figure out what nation the NFL if the football league of before we decide we don’t need a national football league.

No TV. No NFL. No MSM. No college ball. Life is sweet.
Does anyone know (or know how to find out) if the cable news channels ratings are indeed up compared to a year ago?
I do not think interest in the elections is causing the NFL ratings problems. But it would be interesting to know the news channel ratings.
I suspect he knows that what he is saying is ridiculous. But he is getting credit from liberals for his willingness to make himself look like a fool for the sake of liberalism.
No. Some? Maybe. But not 10%-15% off. This is a deliberate disgust of football FANS with the anti-Americanism/SJW attitudes of the “pretty-in-pink” NFL.
There was a time that I watched every televised game (before satellite), one at 1, one at 4, later, Sunday evening, Monday night. If it was NFL, I watched. Over the last couple of years, no. Not only has the league gotten ridiculously PC-—the Michael Sam thing was nauseating-—but the teams are all carbon copies of each other.
In the “good old days,” the Raiders had certain formations and were known for deep, downfield throws. The 49ers were known for the “west coast.” The Bears for the 4-6. The Cowboys for the flex. And so on. Now, every team runs the same exact plays from the same formations. The Patriots tend to do it better than anyone else for the last 10 years, and it hurts me to say that.
But now, on top of that, the NFL wants to start preaching about breast cancer, homosexuals, and police shootings? No thanks.
I don’t think its about the Kaepernick thing either.... I think it’s about Kaepernick plus a whole lot of other decisions they’ve made that don’t sit well with most people.... all of which make it easier to decide to spend money elsewhere.
LOL!
The NFL is now basically the world’s most expensive reality show, with scripted controversy to draw in the gullible. I was a Steeler fan - won’t be watching any more.
Douchebag of the month: C.C.
You are so right. I have better things to do on Sundays, like praise Jesus and play with my family. The NFL is so boring, anyway. Now they embrace unpatriotic fools. I wish all fans would just stay away. No tickets, no concessions, no paraphernalia. I am boycotting these UN-American snowflakes. Join me.
And you notice they pan in on the protesters doing their totally disrespectful, idiotic thing. They probably would have had a higher rating if they had not displayed the action. I know I turned it off right after that shot calling them a real bad name I wish they could hear. But I’ll bet their sponsors are hearing a lot more from the public than the football players are.
