Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Tuesday that the Senate will take up an expected veto override of legislation that lets families of 9/11 victims sue Saudi Arabia in U.S. courts before breaking for the elections.
"Both of those we'll have to deal with before we depart," the Senate Republican Leader told reporters. He was referring to the veto override and a separate push to block a proposed arms sale to Saudi Arabia.
The Senate had been expected to leave town this week, but McConnell said it was "safe to say" that the Senate would be in town next week. The House and Senate have both approved the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act. The White House is expected to veto the legislation by Friday — the deadline for it to take action.
The administration argues the bill could open up U.S. citizens abroad to retaliatory legal attacks.
A handful of senators, including Republicans and Democrats, have echoed the White House's concerns, but stopped short of saying they would oppose the override.

A successful veto override would be the first real signal to OBozo that he is truly a lame duck. His muslim friends in the house of Saud won’t be happy and to them it will be the icing on the cake to forever consider him a failure.
This is a “nice to have” but I want the SOB to be stopped AFTER the election. That’s when Obama plans to pass TPP with McConnell helping him.
Congress has never overridden an Obama veto. Don’t look for one now. Congressmen who originally voted in favor of the 9/11 victims will now vote the other way, or not vote at all.
His Majesty, the Emperor Obama, cannot be so insulted! Oh, and backdoor Saudi money will play a part too.
The marines won a lawsuit against Iran for the Beirut bombing and have yet to see a dime! Meaningless... Sure you win the suit but if our government doesn’t make them pay well...

I don’t get this issue at all. When 9/11 happened, the families were given millions of dollars by our government....taxpayer money. Lots of people are killed every day that won’t get a penny from anyone, so that was a real and large blessing. Anyone handed a million dollars tax free, has no money problems...so why do they want to sue the Saudi’s?
Finally legislation so bad both parties can hide behind it. Obama gets one veto right and Congress overrides. Ya gotta luv it.
And an unsuccessful attempt would be yet another signal that the Republican Congress is a squishy spineless gelatinous blob, incapable of standing upright, or even knowing which way is up.
