Also the fact that the spider web in the broken window completely “undisturbed” is dubious for a break in.

Meh, I've taken down spider webs at night, while letting the dog out, and they're back first thing in the morning when letting the dog out again.

A spider web can form in less than half an hour. That was mentioned in the book about the Ramsey case - “Perfect Murder, Perfect Town”.
