Sham, a tremendous horse in his own right, was matching Secretariat at a near world record pace right to the half mile mark when Secretariat accelerated to a pace that no horse has ever matched.
That and the Miracle on Ice I just never tire of.
Sham was the name of the horse in Marguerite Henry’s book, King Of The Wind.
It was the story of the Godolphin Arabian, the source of the modern thoroughbred, with the story starting about Man O’ War.
Much as I felt a love for Sham, I cheered for Red, in honor of the first Big Red.
