Scheuer’s credentials as described in that book are impressive: “For the past seventeen years, my career has focused exclusively on terrorism, Islamic insurgencies, militant Islam… I have earned my keep and am able to speak with some authority and confidence about Osama bin Laden, al-Qaeda, [and] the dangers they pose and symbolize for the Unites States…” Indeed, Scheuer also served as Senior Adviser for the Osama Bin Laden Department and Chief of the Sunni Militant Unit.

I think the real hubris is deciding that the petrodollar is so important that the USA must support whatever ISIS-like schemes the Saudis and Qataris come up with while attempting to win their Islamic civil war against the Shiites.

I don’t see it so much as an MI fail, but as a total and complete cultural fail or the US in particular and “The West” in general.
Obama, at Mogadishu, called it correct in his fatwhaa. We are “paper tigers”.
We, as a people, are not currently capable of fighting to win in any endeavor, military or otherwise.
The intel fail is just a symptom of our rot caused disease.

Besides the Obama/Clintoons destroying/maiming our MI, there is another factor that has been around for a long time.
That happens when the local commanders ignore intel warning them that the enemy is planning to attack.
A prime example was the TET warnings that some local commanders ignored in Nam. ASA Vet can verify this.
A Navy ship captain listened to a Crypto warning that his sailors would be in danger in the liberty port stop in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic, from the Castro bastards months after the Cuban Missile Crisis was over.
He got the Santa Domingo police, Dominican police and Coast Guard to get his sailors back on the ship. The ship left Santa Domingo in less than a hour after the CO gave the orders to get our sailors back on board. One of the ensigns was not there when the ship pulled out at flank speed. The Dominican Coast Guard brought the ensign to the ship out of the port and transferred him from one of their coastal patrol boats.
Later, the Dominicans founded and rounded up a Cuban Hit team that had been secretly brought on shore to kill and maim US sailors.
If that ship’s captain had not heeded the Critic crypto warning report to get out of Dodge with his sailors, a blood bath would have probably happened.
How many times has Obama/Clinton/Kerry ignored good intel to warn our embassy people and military personnel.

As Obama and his regime are a symptom of our current cultural fail, I don’t see how I could disagree.
