The FBI’s primary task is to PROTECT the GOVERNMENT.
I wonder if some of the emails that the FBI reviewed made Comey aware of the true extent of Hillary’s health issues? Maybe he knows a lot more about her conditions courtesy of conversation between her and Huma.
Not defending him at all, but maybe one consideration was that health problems would eventually catch up to her anyway. So he manages to avoid the complications of a messy and political legal matter and in favor of letting the medical story play out on its own.

I believe Comey was in on cleaning up after the Clinton’s in the 90’s also.
The Clintons are the lions of the D.C. grasslands. They are feared by all and given room whenever they pass. But they are showing weakness. They are growing tired. The other Dems are smelling blood and beginning to stir. The leopards and black-backed jackals are staring and calculating and waiting... waiting for the last stumble. Waiting for them to go down and stay down.
As soon as the balance is tipped the hyenas will rip them to pieces.
Presidential appointees are the political appointees who oversee and ensure that the intent of the president is carried out at the cabinet and department level.
They’ve got something on him in their files.
I don’t think the FBI has ever *not* been compromised by nefarious entities, be they political or criminal.
They have been good at apprehending the criminals they want to apprehend and have generally had outstanding public relations skills at the top.
Understand, but appointees also have other loyalties, connections, and “friends”. These are people who are quite capable of serving more than one master and pursuing multiple agendas. Not saying they ignore the president’s wishes; just that they look out for their own futures, both inside and outside of government.
