Yukio Mishima was a well-known pro-militarist, an ardent advocate of Bushido. He was also an accomplished novelist, who was at one point a candidate for Nobel Prize for Literature. He made an attempt for a military putsch, raiding Japanese SDF building and urging SDF soldiers to rise up. When he realized that they ignored his speech, he ended his life with a ritual suicide, instructing his lieutenant to behead him while he was slashing his abdomen.
