Sometimes I wonder why skyscrapers don’t store jumping cords in emergency equipment. With those, few would have suffered serious harm, let alone died.

Yes, me, too. The end of life as they knew was inescapable. It was to either suffocate or die burning up. Having had several small serious burns and, at another time, needing aerosolized epi to breath, and knowing how long both of those went on, I would have jumped. Anybody with any compassion would not be talking about suicide or going to hell or any other tommyrot like that, but would have prayed they had a quick end.
