That she is an old time bigot is right. I have learned that when a rabid liberal engages in this kind of generalized hate speech against an entire group of people (usually conservatives or Repugs), I immediately tell them to their face that is a bigoted statement and they are bigots. Almost always they experience abject horror on their face and they immediately try to deny and then make some half-ass apology like Hitlery did that is nothing more then trying to prove how superior they are.
To that I just say “I don’t except your apology because it is not sincere if you think you are better then someone else. The only way it is sincere is if you “repent” and that means changing your life to accept these people you just insulted. You may not agree with them, but you have to accept them as your equal. Otherwise you are nothing but a bigot.” Then I usually just walk away and let them think about it because there is usually nothing to be gained by pushing the argument further as it just turns into a shouting match.
I don’t ever expect them to change. But at least they may try to keep their opinions to themselves or be more careful in the future to not be so insulting.
PS - learned this by being married to a very liberal wife for 21 years and living in California and surviving with lots of liberal friends. Basically, I accept them as they are, and only demand they accept me as I am. Usually we avoid politics to keep things civil and friendly, but when I feel insulted, I let them know it.
