Here is what I heard...or read.

Iran and the U.S.A. do not have regular banking electronic payment/transfer capabilities.

Thus it needed to be cash.

I also heard/read..no U.S. bills.

Don't know the accuracy of the above..though.

I'm not buying that one. International money transfers are handled through intermediary banks all the time. You can even get funds from Israel to China through intermediary countries viewed as neutral by both hostile nations.
