From an odd source I just learned one bit of linguistic trivia that makes me wonder about another. JK Rowlings just released some little books of side trivia regarding her Harry Potter series. In one she mentions using two roots to get the name of her wizarding prison, Azkaban. One was ‘Alcatraz’ for obvious reasons. The other was a “Hebrew word meaning ‘place of destruction’ or ‘depths of hell,’” ‘Abaddon.’ A similarity to Huma’s last name, Abedin, jumps out, but as both words are transliterations to English from two different languages with non-Roman scripts, that may be a meaningless coincidence. But if the two really shared linguistic roots and meaning it would be fascinating... Maybe some Freeper has the right expertise to comment on this.
That is indeed thought provoking.
