A Facebook post shared by a Bossier Parish teen is getting a lot of attention.
It reads, "Just left Albertsons. The woman behind the cake counter just refused to make me a birthday cake because I wanted Trump 2016 on it. Did that really just happen."
The cake is for the Benton girl's 18th birthday party, and the post has been shared now more than 150 times.
From the link.....
Gill says they decided to take their order elsewhere, and notified store officials.
“It’s your job, we’re not really going for your opinion on what you think of the candidates we were just wanting Trump 2016 on the cake.”
Connie Yeates, a spokesperson for Albertson’s released the following statement:
“We apologize to our customer in Bossier City for the situation regarding the cake that was requested. Our Bakery staff member misunderstood the training provided regarding copyrighted phrases, and incorrectly informed the customer we could not fulfill her request. We would be happy to provide the cake as the customer requested.”
Despite what happened, the 17-year-old is letting it roll off her back and excited about being able to exercise her right to vote in November.
Actually that makes sense. These are First Amendment expression issues. If someone considers it an abomination to inscribe a cake to a “gay wedding” — fine, don’t require it, any more than if someone considers it an abomination to inscribe a cake to Donald Trump.
Events have a way of getting ironic.
The Never Trump Mormon bosses in Salt Lake City are probably behind this.<<<
Perfect!!!...even more money to go after!!!!
Nah... it’s tempting but it would be the wrong thing. Don’t screw the 1st Amendment even worse than it already has been.
The Colorado Human Rights Commission already set the double standard. In the same week of ruling either early this year or late last, no less.
Christians saying no to a service due to faith/something they find blasphemy, illegal discrimination against protected classes.
Homosexuals refusing service for Christian events / conservative events, OK because that act is political speech and that’s protected.
In short, refusing service and saying it is political makes it OK, refuse due to your faith, not allowed and you can be sued by those refused AND the state.
And if you have a religious stance, they won’t let you say YOUR views are political and thus protected.
Liberals are going back to the moral hierarchy of old tribes - these groups on top and more protected and moral, these groups on bottom, those who don’t conform apostates/renegades to be converted or killed. Like Islam.
Even in the case of marriages... if a Catholic baker didn’t want to inscribe a cake to a legal marriage of Protestants, or vice versa, that should be just fine even though that is a religious preference.
Something has gone crazy here and needs to be brought to a strict accounting.
Bake... The... Cake...
Albertsons is NOT a private business it IS a huge national grocery chain!!! This was an employee behind the bakery counter that decided SHE or HE didn’t want to put this on the cake!!! I think Albertsons corporate offices NEED to be SLAMMED with calls about this!!! I work for this company under the Von’s umbrella I am appalled and I am going to let them know EXACTLY how I feel about our team members refusing service to our customers in this way!!!
wonder if the court will force them to?
They already capitulated, as far as this one situation was concerned.
But I think it better to allow 1st Amendment conscience exceptions for cake inscriptions, even if it defied a corporate policy (let the company deal with the objecting employee separately) than to point the gun and say bake the cake.
We are to assume that an Employee working in the Bakery of an Albertson’s Supermarket understands Copyright Law?
Got it...
Pardon me if I don't believe a word of it.
Their pitiful *excuse* is laughable, isn’t it?
I was about to say the same thing. Leftists FORCE things upon people.
Maybe Trump supporters will boycott the store.
True. But you sure can suffer the business consequences of your politics.
I understand what you are saying, HOWEVER this is not a private business there are MANY team members working in that bakery if this one team member objected to writing this on the cake you just pass it off to another team member, I am betting you this was either a black or Hispanic team member that just decided on their own to decline this sale!!! With a PRIVATE bakery you can do whatever you want it is YOUR business NO ONE should be able to demand you do anything you don’t wish to do, you reap the consequences whatever they may be!!!
Well fine, no need to get our hair on fire about this like they just slew a puppy. I bet if an Albertsons wouldn’t do it, some other grocery would, anyhow.
“Albertsons is headquartered in a heavily Mormon area (Boise). The Never Trump Mormon bosses in Salt Lake City are probably behind this.”
Doubt it goes any farther than some green haired, tattooed and facially pierced liberal working the bakery counter at the Albertsons.
Because Republicans/conservatives/Trump voters aren’t a protected “class” like gays, women, seniors, blacks, etc. Of course the fools all seal clapping the government putting Christian bakers out of business would think this kind of discrimination is just peachy keen.
