Obese people will be routinely refused operations across the NHS, health service bosses have warned, after one authority said it would limit procedures on an unprecedented scale.
Hospital leaders in North Yorkshire said that patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above as well as smokers will be barred from most surgery for up to a year amid increasingly desperate measures to plug a funding black hole. The restrictions will apply to standard hip and knee operations.

“You are, because rather than doing push ups and bodyweight squats you are giving me a sob story. Let’s hope that others who are more impressionable don’t copy this behavior.”
You know, this is the second time you’ve struck on this thread. You are a verbal nasty piece of work, aren’t you. Why don’t you go back to the rock you crawled out from under.
Canes and dark glasses are cheap.
Here is the issue I have with your analysis—and that of much of medicine.
It is based on statistics—that is the overall effect on large populations.
However, within those populations the affects vary widely (perhaps on something like a normal curve).
With centralized decision-making on who gets help and who doesn’t the bureaucrat will always rely on statistics—since they have no easy way to determine who fits where on the normal curve.
So, from the point of view of the state smokers are bad risks—and that drives policy.
From the point of view of the individual (and whether they should get medical care) the state policy is madness.
These “bosses” have addresses. Just sayin.

In the US the CMS just has a different name for it. Medicare and Medicaid will pay Hospitals and providers based on the future health of the patient.
The future health of the patient depends on lifestyle choices over which the Hospital/Doctor have no control. The result will be that Hospital networks and physician networks will shift the patient load in order to maximize payment from CMS.
The providers are given incentive to treat those who are healthy and have healthy lifestyles and to not treat obese sexually promiscuous smokers.
Ah the perfect people! The ones without sins and great will power. I, like ozaukeemon am fat. I guess I should just off my self so the sight of me won’t cause any undue stress to the perfect. Of course, the fact that I am fitter than many people half my age, can ride, rope and shoot with the best of them has no bearing. I can also take care of my personal hygiene needs, thank you very much. As my son likes to say “Don’t piss mama off, she will whup your ass”. Have a nice day.
“I guess what this means in the long run is that people everywhere will start being leaner and meaner and more able to kick the liberal butts who started this type of biased”
No, they’ll probably just be dead or crippled up.
Actually obese people live longer than the underweight, statistically. So it seems to me under these satanic provisions the underweight should be denied the care, neh?
My hubs went into serious chemo treatment for Acute Myelogenous Leukeumia weighing over 300 pounds. He survived the treatments when many of the beautiful young men on the floor turned into wastrels and died. They could not eat and they had insufficient fat reserves. My heart breaks for them.
Mr. 60 year old fatty made it :) Dropped 100 pounds in the process, of course.
Anyway, and obviously, we should pay for our own health care and pay for what we want done. We all know it. Socialized medicine is nasty to people.
“From glory to black hole in four years.”
that’s what happens as the open borders crowd in England, as in Europe, flood their country with “refugees,” sucking up whatever medical and welfare benefits are available. your average Brit goes to the back of the queue for medical care to make way for these new arrivals.
AML is tough to beat. Very good to hear.
I always say no. Never had a doc question me about it once I say no. Better to lie then to die.
My friend in CA has Kaiser insurance. She needed back surgery and her doctor refused to do it until she quit smoking for four months. Meanwhile he gave her all kinds of meds including morphine for the pain .
Yep.
That is true but they shouldn’t be denied needed surgery as long as they understand the risks. My friend in CA was denied back surgery unless she quit smoking for four months, meanwhile taking many pain meds including morphine. Hope she doesn’t come out being addicted to worse than nicotine.
Thinning the herd
You need to back up two steps.
Fat people should be left alone, and government should not be in the business of health care.
“AML is tough to beat. Very good to hear.”
I am truly amazed he is still alive. Diagnosed at age 58. Quite remarkable.
Hear Hear
Actually, normal people don’t develop emotions as strong as hate for the private activities of others. You probably weren’t aware of that.
Just a preview of the future of CommieCare!
