Georgetown University will give preference in admissions to the descendants of slaves owned by the Maryland Jesuits as part of its effort to atone for profiting from the sale of enslaved people, the president of the prominent Jesuit university in Washington announced Thursday.

I found a copy of an ancestor’s last will and testament online from a very long time ago. He left his “negro” to his heir.
It freaked me out to see it in writing. I can’t imagine owning another human being.

P.S. : The ‘slave trade’ was simply TRADE. What about the African Chieftains who sold (and greatly profited) from this trade? Are they no longer culpable for their crimes?
Also, making a profit defines capitalism, what better way to get wealthy? Of course, it was wrong for all involved ~ I am NOT defending slave-owners.
