For those who opted for the GE engines, there was, of course, this story.

FAA Says Boeing 787 Dreamliners Have 'Urgent Safety Issue' FORTUNE ^ | APRIL 25, 2016 | Laura Lorenzetti Posted on 4/26/2016, 12:23:05 AM by sukhoi-30mki http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3424690/posts

Let's see how long it takes the Boeing PR team to get to this thread.

There’s a reason why Rolls Royce is a distant 3rd in engines. Pratt and Whitney is the way to go.

Maybe Pratt and Whitney has a solution?

Pratt & Whitney is the way to go. Dependable Engines is not just a slogan with P&W.

Which country did Boeing/Rolls Royce farm out the engine turbine blades to?

Did P&W ever get their problems with the geared turbines worked out? At one point, it was one of those great ideas that didn’t work.

I remember when Rolls Royce about drove Lockheed into bankruptcy with their engines. Only a taxpayer bailout saved Lockheed.

Yes, the Pratt PW1000G is currently in commercial service powering the Airbus A320neo.

They could buy those Chinese jet engines one day soon.

Oh see there is the problem right there. Those turbines clearly deal +4 frost damage to the first stage compressor.

Thanks. I remembered them having problems with it a few years ago, and haven’t really kept up with things.

Not so dependable with the TF-30 and the J-52-P408 engines.

The pollution in Japan can actually cause issues with engine reliability. I was in a TF-30 equipped Tomcat squadron in Japan and we doubled our engine wash schedules when we were ashore. It cut way back on the engine problems we had.

We got some of that here.

So the answer is yes.

Excellent.

And I will tell people that it was AFreedBird who affirmed that Pratt and Whitney has the solution.

787 is a lot of Dreamliners... and a hundred engines on each of them!
