Strokes by definition occur inside the brain, not “near” it, whatever that means.

So that's why I was sent to the stroke unit for evaluation at Jefferson Hospital in Philly after diagnosis of a branch radial artery occlusion? Every doctor I have calls it a stroke.

The artery feeding the brain may be occluded but the stroke, i.e. the damage caused by the occlusion, occurs in the brain.

BTW, are you referring to the radial artery in your arm?
