He said no amnesty. Amnesty means forgiveness. He’s got a lot of wiggle room between forgiveness and automatic deportation. I anticipate he’ll use it.

Nieto has a very rough row to hoe.
His very life is in danger from the Cartels.
Trump is an ally to assist in ridding Mexico of the cartel plague.
You need to listen to his speech.
The tone of his proposals leaves no room what so ever for any of this ‘I’ll buy my way into safety’ nonsense.
He is having none of that.
Listen to his speech, you’ll learn a lot.

I caught the excerpts of it on the news this morning, and I was absolutely wrong.
I don't see how he thought repeating that would be an upside for him. Then again, maybe he thinks the benefit he gets from Americans liking it will offset the problems it causes from Mexicans resenting it.
He can be diplomatic to the Mexicans after he wins.
Yup. I was absolutely wrong in my prediction about what Trump would do.
At this point Im actually a little puzzled by what President Nieto was thinking in inviting Trump to come down.
I think Nieto was taking precautions for the probability that Trump is going to win. It might be that Mexican culture cannot allow them to believe the US would elect a female President, and so they naturally assume Trump will win.
I did better. I read the transcript. Several times. His focus on deportation was the 2 million felons. Then he simply set the stage to say to say that immigration policy should be for the benefit of U.S. citizens, they will set up policies, and it will be done legally.
We all know the optics of deporting an illegal but productive mother with a citizen husband and young children who are also citizens. Those are the ones that will be out in front of cameras. Those are the ones that most American citizens believe the US benefits by having them stay. And he left all kinds of room for that to happen.
What I’m getting at is, this was an invitation from the Mexican president to both Trump and Hillary. Trump Doesn’t need his campaign staff to tell him to take advantage of this. He knew he would look Presidential and upstage Hillary at the same time.
How can an illegal be ‘productive’ when he isn’t allowed to work because he is an illegal?
As Trump noted, five million already received amnesty through Obama’s executive order. You and me and Trump may know it was illegal, but many of those five million have invested a lot of money, left and re-entered in what they were told was a legal way, and have the documents to get jobs etc. Unfair? Absolutely. But that is why Trump used the language of priorities. Eleven million people will not be deported. You can bet on it.
What I did bet on, and won, was that you wouldn’t answer my simple and direct question.
Looks like the prediction would have been spot on if Nieto hadn’t taken to Twitter. Trump had dropped the “Mexico will pay” line from his speech but put it back in after Nieto’s deal breaking tweet.

Now you’re making stuff up. I explicitly described how 5 million became “legal” and are using those papers to work. Now it’s true, I didn’t draw the lines for you and say that many had jobs and were productive. Maybe I’ll use bigger letters and draw pictures next time too. Bottom line, there’s an optics problem and Trump will not permanently deport 11 million people.
I’m talking about illegals.
When this is all done they will all be gone.
Those who were ‘converted’, probably illegally, by Obama are an issue I don’t know enough about to give a good comment on.

Well that certainly explains it. I'm glad that this bit of information came out, because otherwise it made me think that I wasn't gauging the man correctly. He didn't seem to be the sort who would thumb his nose at someone after he had reached a deal with them, but the actions of the Mexican president explains it.
