Excommunication has historically ALWAYS involved an action by the visible Church against a willful heretic. Always? Uh, no. You're about 1,000 years off. But while you're at it, perhaps you can help us understand the difference between latae sententiae excommunication and ferendae sententiae excommunication? You seem to be the expert after all.

My contention stands. A church which doesn’t deal with the heresy in its midst by EXPELLING the blasphemer is complicit in the heresy.
