Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump had not even left yet for his visit to Mexico on Wednesday morning when the mainstream media began declaring it a failure.
Politico’s Anna Palmer and Jake Sherman, for example, wrote in their morning “Playbook” email:
TRUMP TO MEXICO — We know that the Mexican government is not interested in paying for Donald Trump’s wall.
The New York Times also did its best, reporting Trump’s impending visit under the headline: “Donald Trump to Visit Mexico After More Than a Year of Mocking It.” The Times added that the visit was the “latest gamble for Mr. Trump and his struggling campaign.”
Trump shocked the political world by announcing the visit on Tuesday night — less than 24 hours ahead of his immigration speech in Arizona.
Though the visit has political risks — President Nieto could try to embarrass him, and Trump could make rhetorical mistakes — the fact that it is happening at all is unquestionably a coup for the Republican nominee. It undercuts Hillary Clinton’s attempt to portray Trump as a toxic racist, and also shows Trump looking the part of a president.
The media clearly understand that, and are determined to undermine Trump as they did Mitt Romney in 2012.
They are already trying to do the same with Trump, and are clearly eager to reassure the public that Hillary Clinton, too, will have her turn to meet the Mexican president.
There is only one problem: she has already been to Mexico, and embarrassed herself. In 2009, for example, as the newly-installed Secretary of State, she used a visit to blame American guns for violence in Mexico, setting up Operation Fast and Furious, which ended in the death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

This will be "reported" as having hurt Trump. But it won't hurt him an iota. He'll actually get a political bounce from it.
The guy is a fascinating high-wire act.
She is getting hardly any applause as she gets louder and louder. The tepid applause are probably her minions/entourage. It is on all cable networks and there is NO applause to speak of. Funny!!!

Trump should NOT go there, but meet on the US side along the border.
Trump was to give his immigration speech about a month ago.
Then, without explanation, the speech was pulled and re-scheduled to “sometime later’.
Then, Trump announces the speech is in Arizona on Sept 1.
Now, the President of Mexico is a busy man. His schedule is set weeks in advance.
We are to believe the President of Mexico invites Trump last Friday, and then cleared his Wednesday, to meet Trump.
More likly Truth.
Trump schedules his speech a month ago. Gets a call from Mexico for a parlay. Then Trump and Mexico parlay and discuss for a month. Then Trump schedules his speech. Then Trump drops his Mexico visit, which is simply the cummulation of their talks.

I don’t see how the Secret Service could possibly keep Donald Trump safe in the land of “Plata O’ Plomo,” and I certainly question the motive of any of his advisers who advised him to take this trip.
We now definitely know who the enemy is, the media.
Just looking at news and other than Drudge Report, it is almost as if Trump’s trip to Mexico was canceled. Not really on Fox or CNN unless you dig for it. Too quiet, which is likely good for Trump as he can define the trip.
Trump clearly has no doubts at all that he is winning and will become President.
For the first time in a long time we are going to have a president who wouldn’t rather be on the Golf course or bothering interns. We’e going to have a man genuinely working hard.
Trump will not have a moment to waste once elected, so he might as well begin the initial shaping of foreign policy now.

CNN’s scrolling banner said basically the same thing as the NYT.
“Trump Visits Mexico After Year of Berating Country.”
CNN hs been obsessing over the trip, making it as negative as they can muster.
problem is, Trump’s trip takes a huge bite out of their “Trump is a scary racist” narrative
What other reason could he have? Maybe not embarrass Trump per se. But make it clear at the end that the two men agree on nothing and that Mexico will not be bullied, which would have the same effect.
