sorry for commenting on a comment website. Would you like to talk about Checkers instead? :) I would think practically everybody on this site is an armchair analyst, except maybe with the exception of you of course :)

Either the “good” illegals, as Trump calls them, cough up the $$, or home they go. “Willingness” to go home becomes a moot point. Sure, if they wish to come forward in a timely manner, we will assist them in going home. But the more important actions are to dry up benefits and employment for illegals.

That last in particular is key, as it requires (mainly) an executive branch that will actually enforce current law. Start making high profile arrests of major offenders (employers of illegals) about one a week. Prosecute those employers with maximum penalties. Also go after fake document mills as aggressively as possible. Watch what happens.

Perhaps I should further clarify: My addition to the Trump proposal basically expands the idea that if the illegal coughs up the $$ (my stipulation is that "the $$" are to include unpaid back taxes, state and Federal, SS tax, and the fine), then the illegal can apply for legal status* while remaining in the US, and will not be considered "illegal", so long as they continue to follow our laws (including tax laws). In effect, they will be considered as having paid for their crime, and even then, cannot apply for citizenship or acquire voting rights.

That's a fairly heavy penalty (even in Trump's abbreviated proposal), and is so by design. I'd wager not one in 10 illegals could come up with the money -- at least not in the time period I would give them to do so. Say, 2 years?

*It also seems to me that if immigrants are allowed to stay via this process, a decrease in direct legal immigration from whatever country is the "source" is also in order.

He wants E-Verify to keep employees from hiring illegals. And no gov bennies. So how illegals going to stay if they can’t work and can’t get welfare? They’ll voluntarily leave. Only other option is selling drugs and then if they’re caught they’re deported.

win win win.

Here’s the deal.

The Democrats make it very comfortable for Illegal Invaders to come here, secure Employment, Driver’s Licenses and live on the Taxpayers dime.

Trump will make it very uncomfortable for them.

The Party will be over, especially when Trump has an effective Rope Line at the Door and he lets the Bouncers we have already hired (Border Patrol and ICE) do their Jobs following our current Immigration Laws.

Add his push to get rid of the Anchor Baby Loophole and we are in Business. That is what we should call it, a Loophole, just like the Libtards say Gun Show Loophole and Tax Loophole.

The rest is just noise.

You make an interesting point, though perhaps not intentionally: Most of the GOP-e types in power are actually fairly capable people who could do well, financially, in a Trump environment, if they would honestly apply themselves.

This makes me think the GOP-e opposition to Trump is more about power and position, perhaps a certain sort of laziness, and possibly exposure of corruption, than about their raw ability to do well in a Trump led USA.
