The Turkish military and the U.S.-led coalition forces launched an operation in the Jarablus region of Syria to clear its borders from the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group early on Wednesday.
The operation began at around 4 a.m. with the Turkish artillery launching intense fire on the region followed by Turkish warplanes bombing IS targets.
The military operation aimed at clearing the Turkish border from "terrorist elements," halting the new wave of refugee flows and delivering humanitarian aid to civilians in the region, the last significant town held by the jihadist group on the border with Turkey.

WHY would Obama follow insignificant and meaningless things like “Laws” now? It’s not like anyone in the mainstream media is going to DARE criticize it, if they want to stay employed.
There never seems any plan or strategy to these Obama forays. It’s like, “Turkey wants some planes? Cool. Let ‘em have ‘em. Okay, who’s up for the back nine at Congressional tomorrow? Everybody? Cool.”
OTOH notice that there are no objections from Syria or Russia -- both have air presence in the area.
If the "US coalition forces" are taking part in this, it would mean that Obama double-crossed the Kurds already, they are the main target of the Turks.

The BBC is reporting now that Turkish ground forces have crossed the border. Are they going to pull back once they’ve ‘secured the border’?

No,no,no. Turks are preventing the Kurds of Syrian NE from linking with the Kurds of Syrian NW. This is the goal.
The control will be given to the Syrian "rebel" units, basically the same Islamists as ISIS, and as a guess these units will have a high %-age of ethnic Turks, rather than Arabs, and surely no Kurds.

In his address, he said the United States were going on offensive, launching “a steady, relentless effort to take out” the group “wherever they exist.” Obama also announced creating of a broader coalition against ISIL.
Commenting on Obama’s address, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich opposed the U.S. intervention against ISIL in Syria “without the consent of the legitimate government” and said that “this step, in the absence of a UN Security Council decision, would be an act of aggression, a gross violation of international law”. Ali Haidar, Syrian minister of national reconciliation, said that “any action of any kind without the consent of the Syrian government would be an attack on Syria”.
On September 17, 2014 the U.S. House of Representatives approved Obama’s plan to train and arm the Syrian rebels in their fight against ISIL. In a statement following the House vote, Obama said that the United States wouldn’t send military troops to Syria. The Senate gave final congressional approval to Obama’s proposal the next day.
The U.S. did not request permission from the Syrian government, nor did it coordinate its actions with the Syrian government, provide direct notification to the Syrian military or give indication of timing on specific targets, but it did notify the Syrian U.N. representative, which the Syrian government confirmed.
Before the airstrikes began, the United States also informed Iran, the Assad government’s largest regional ally, of their intention to launch airstrikes. It did not share specific timing or targets of strikes with the Iranian government but reportedly assured it that the US would not strike any Syrian government targets.

Erdogen has made it his goal to overtake Assad so Turkey can control Syria, the big prize. Maybe Damascus destruction will happen here and prophecy will be fulfilled.
