“Bonfire of the Vanities” was published almost 30 years ago and getting lost driving through the “wrong” neighborhood in NYC is the main event in the story.
Tom Wolfe was way ahead regarding this type of thing.
{A GREAT book,a lousy movie.}

Naive tourist that I was, I thought all of Savannah was charming streets lined with arching trees draped in Spanish moss so the wife and I took a stroll after some riverside bar hopping. We were lucky to make it back to our hotel, I'll tell you that.
Agree with you on "Bonfire of the Vanities." I read the book three or four times but the movie was horrid. I wish Tom Wolfe wrote more novels. He's really good at it. "Man in Full" is also highly recommended.
I get Bonfire feelings when we take a wrong turn in Wichita or Kansas City Kansas. It’s not just the really big cities.
GREAT BOOK! I think the setting was in 1980 something. Tom Wolfe really nails the cultural divide between black and white, which sadly, has not changed much.
