In John’s and every other POW’s defense, it is common knowledge that everyone, that would be everyone, has a breaking point. The question is, how much do you give when you reach the breaking point, and how quickly are you able to recover and get past the break point so you don’t remain a squealing pig.
We can all be grateful we did not have to suffer the torture of the North Vietnamese, as our POW’s in their prisons were forced to endure. I don’t regard John as a hero, or a traitor, but his tenure in Congress has been far more dangerous to the country than his time as a POW.

I can’t think of a single policy I agree with him. In my definition of “hero”— he isn’t one. I know of no other captured pilot that made audio and video propaganda for the communists invaders. I know of no other captured pilot that has special private quarters in the Hanoi Hilton. I know of no other that was awarded with the early right to to release.
But you can believe what you want.
